Research in the humanities is different from research in the sciences or social sciences because so much of it is concerned with the value of a work. Other distinguishing characteristics of humanities research include:
- the importance of the library when compared to the laboratory (except in the creation of fine arts)
- a preference for books over articles, although both are used
- a focus on primary texts or items
- a longer time frame for the materials used having recent information is not as important as it may be for researchers in the sciences and social sciences
In this 'Flow of Information' timeline we follow Georgia writer Flannery O'Connor's novel Wise Blood from publication to its acceptance as a great work and a part of America's literary canon.
