Safety & Security Intern Program
The Board of Regents, University System Office (BOR-USO) Safety & Security Internship Program provides a valuable learning experience for college and university students by engaging them in projects and tasks that support safe and secure campus environments within the University System of Georgia.
Under the direction of the Director of Safety & Security, interns have the opportunity to work on assignments, assist in creating programs that support 26 colleges and universities that comprise the University System of Georgia, Skidaway Institute of Oceanography and the Georgia Public Library System to improve the safety and security of their communities. Intern opportunities are available in various locations throughout the state.
Potential program assignment areas include:
- Risk Management – focus on reducing exposures in workers compensation, auto liability, safety, safety training, property management, accident investigation program evaluation.
- Emergency Operations Planning/Preparedness/Mitigation – activities may include participation in emergency operations planning meetings, assist in reviewing existing and proposed mitigation programs, assisting in writing hazard mitigation plans as well as research of methods and processes to improve emergency preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery capabilities.
- Violence Against Women Act program – research and/or assist in the development of programs to improve the successful identification and prosecution of offenders. Support current and ongoing efforts to improve the capabilities of residence life, student activities, campus and local law enforcement in responding and investigating violent acts.
- Public Safety – Projects may include research and evaluation of new technologies, improving organizational processes/procedures, identifying best practices, assisting in the development of training programs.
