Regents Committee Named For Bainbridge College Presidental Search

Atlanta — February 3, 2005

Board of Regents Chairman Joel O. Wooten, Jr., of Columbus, announced on Tues., Feb. 2, the appointment of the Special Regents Committee as part of the Bainbridge College presidential search process. This committee, along with University System of Georgia Chancellor Thomas C. Meredith, will conduct interviews with the final candidates sent forward by the Bainbridge Presidential Search and Advisory Committee.

Regent Doreen Poitevint, of Bainbridge, has been named to chair the Special Regents’ Committee for the presidential search. Regent Julie Hunt, of Tifton, and Regent Mansfield Jennings, of Hawkinsville, will comprise the remaining committee members.

In a related action, Meredith announced the addition of Bainbridge College faculty member Mary Glenn Grimes, associate professor of mathematics, to the Presidential Search and Advisory Committee he named on January 28.

“We are extremely committed to identifying an outstanding leader for the Bainbridge College presidency,” Meredith stated. “I anticipate a very positive outcome from the two committees engaged in the search process.”

Chancellor Meredith traveled to the Bainbridge College campus on Monday of this week to launch the work of the eight-member Presidential Search and Advisory Committee. He charged the committee members with screening all applicants for the position and forwarding at least five unranked candidates to him for review by April 25, 2005.

The chancellor and the Regents Special Committee will interview identified candidates and make a recommendation to the full Board of Regents for consideration and final approval on May 18, 2005. Chancellor Meredith expects the new president to take office no later than July 1, 2005.
