Board of Regents Chair Philip Wilheit Sr. and University System of Georgia (USG) Chancellor Hank Huckaby have announced the names of the three finalists for the Georgia Highlands College presidency.

The recommended finalists are:

Dr. Anita K. Bowles, vice president for Academic Affairs, Spartanburg Methodist College, Spartanburg, S.C. Prior to her current position, Bowles served as chief academic officer for North Greenville College, Greenville, S.C., and in key administrative positions at the University of South Carolina’s regional campuses in Union and Beaufort. Additionally she has held administrative and teaching positions at these and other South Carolina higher education institutions during her career.

Bowles earned an Associate of Arts from North Greenville College, Tigerville, S.C. and a Bachelor of Arts in Counseling from Limestone College, Gaffney, S.C. She holds a Master of Education in Secondary School Guidance and a Ph.D. in Educational Administration, both from the University of South Carolina, Columbia.

Dr. Donald J. Green, vice president for Extended and International Operations, Ferris State University, Big Rapids, Mich. Green has served as both Vice Chancellor and Vice President at Ferris State, leading a number of administrative units. Ferris State is comprised of its Big Rapids main campus and 19 satellite locations throughout Michigan. His higher education career also includes administrative and teaching posts at Grand Rapids Community College, Grand Rapids, Mich., and Davenport University, Grand Rapids, Mich. Green also operated a consulting firm, D. Green and Associates.

Green holds a bachelor of arts degree from Michigan State University, East Lansing, Mich., a master’s degree in labor and human resource management from Ohio State University, Columbus and an Ed.D. in educational leadership from Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, Mich.

Dr. Al M. Panu, senior vice president for University Affairs, University of North Georgia, Dahlonega, Ga. Panu’s previous experience includes serving as vice president for Academic Affairs, dean of the School of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics and chair of the division of Science, Engineering & Technology, all at the former Gainesville State College, Gainesville, Ga.. He has also served in administrative positions at Kennesaw State University, Kennesaw, Ga. Panu is a chemistry professor.

Panu holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Tuskegee Institute, Tuskegee, Ala., a master’s in chemistry from the University of Alabama in Birmingham and a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Georgia, Athens.

The Board of Regents is expected to name the next president of Georgia Highlands College at a future meeting.
