MEDIA ADVISORY - College Completion Summit to Focus on Economic Development
Atlanta — February 15, 2013
The connection between the Complete College Georgia initiative and economic development will be the focus of a gathering of leaders from the state’s higher education systems at the UGA Hotel and Conference Center in Athens, Georgia, on February 18 and 19, 2013. Joining in the discussion will be representatives from the University System of Georgia, Technical College System of Georgia, Georgia’s k-12 system, and business and community groups. The media is invited to attend.
Over the past year, Georgia’s higher education systems and their colleges and universities have developed state- and college-level plans with strategies to meet the education and workforce objectives of Governor Nathan Deal’s Complete College Georgia initiative, including his goal of adding 250,000 more college graduates over and above the state’s current graduation levels.
The 450 participants in the Complete College Georgia Summit 2013: Pursuing People’s Potential. Reaching Georgia’s Potential will listen to speakers, discuss data and explore innovative partnerships with business and industry to achieve Governor Deal’s charge that more Georgians access college and complete postsecondary education, then enter the workforce and contribute to Georgia’s economic development.
Speakers include University System Chancellor Hank Huckaby, Technical College System Commissioner Ron Jackson, and national leaders who will present information about “game changing” approaches to support campuses and communities in this effort.
