Charlie Sutlive Named New Head of University System of Georgia Communications
Atlanta — September 9, 2014
University System of Georgia Chancellor Hank Huckaby today announced the appointment of Charlie Sutlive as the Vice Chancellor for Communications for the USG, effective Oct. 1.
Currently Sutlive serves as the Vice President of U.S. Region Public Affairs and Communications and State and Local Government Relations for Coca-Cola North America. In this position, he leads strategy, engagement and communications with U.S. media, state and local government, employees and key stakeholders in local communities.
During his 12-year career at Coca-Cola Sutlive has had extensive experience in media relations, brand public relations, employee communications and government affairs.
Huckaby expressed great enthusiasm about the selection of Sutlive for this position. “Charlie brings a unique blend of experience, education, and personal attributes that make him an ideal choice for this position,” Huckaby said. “He enjoys a personal and professional reputation that will serve him and the system extremely well. Unquestionably, Mr. Sutlive will be a contributing colleague as a part of the administrative team on day one.”
In his position as Vice Chancellor for Communications, Sutlive will be responsible for leadership and coordination of the University System’s integrated marketing, public relations and communications program in support of the system’s strategic plan and related initiatives. He will provide professional support to all the operational units of system office as well as its 31 colleges and universities.
This is a new position in the University System, and Sutlive will assume leadership for the renamed Department of Communications, formerly Media and Publications, taking over from Associate Vice Chancellor John Millsaps, who has assumed a new leadership role at Georgia Perimeter College, after leading the USG’s communications efforts for the past eight years.
Sutlive is active in civic and community affairs as well. He was a member of the 2011 class of Leadership Georgia. He currently serves on the boards of Leadership Georgia, the Jekyll Island Foundation and the Smithgall Woods Foundation. He graduated from the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism.
He and his wife, Nell, have two children and reside in Atlanta.
