Valdosta State University is a Regional Training Center in the USG Professional Development Consortium (PDC). Six institutions have agreed to be a USG Regional Training Center (RTC) for the System. Staff from the Regional Training Centers lead in assisting other institutions in their regional areas working to understand the professional development issues relating to the institution, as well as developing solutions to the challenges. The purpose of the consortium is to foster collaboration among USG institutions, share training resources, and implement best practices.
This course was developed for the Darton State College Police Department to increase the police officer’s understanding of effective approaches to working in a “living learning” campus environment. It was also a reminder that a campus community expects its officers to be more professional, and flexible than officers serving other types of communities. The class was conducted on October 10, 2014 and fifteen officers and administrative members of the DSU police department attended. The training for the officers also allowed them to receive training hours toward their (mandated) requirement through the GA Peace Officer’s Standards and Training which regulates professional standards for law enforcement officers in the state of Georgia.
