The Bloodborne Pathogen Standard: An Overview
Georgia Public Employers
Georgia does not have an OSHA-approved state plan for occupational safety and health. Consequently, while federal OSHA requirements do apply to most private employers in the state, they do not extend to public employers such as government agencies. However, Georgia Code 31-12-13 requires public employers to adopt a bloodborne pathogen standard governing occupational exposure of public employees to blood and other potentially infectious materials. This standard must be "at least as prescriptive" as the OSHA standard.
